Time flies when you're having fun
Time flies when you're having fun

I can't believe it has been 12 months.

I remember deciding to start a podcast and telling a bunch of friends about my intentions. Thinking to myself...

Am I going to really do this? What am I going to talk about?

For those who know me, talking was not going to be a problem (I've been told many times to "tone down").

The real question was...

Am I ready to be vulnerable about my story?

But more on that later.

So, how did I get to the point of choosing to create and host a podcast all by myself?

For the record, this has been the most time-consuming thing I ever had to do!

Well, a few months prior (late 2022), I had just overcome an ordeal with my previous line manager, where I had to prove my worth to him as I was effectively labeled "incompetent".

Wow! This was a first for me...

In my 17 years of working, I had never sunk that low (and unfairly judged in my opinion).

During some self-reflection, I realized I had become someone I didn't recognize. I had become, secluded, soft-spoken, and conforming. While I was striving to secure a new future for my family...

I had become blunt.

Blunt to enjoying life, pursuing change and standing up for what was right: for me and the people around me.

I hated seeing myself in that state.

Because I knew I had so much more to give.

And the one thing I knew would spark a change was to...

use my voice to SPEAK UP!

As my desire to speak grew, so did the vivid dreams of self-discovering the "new me". I felt the urge to share my thoughts, passions, and ambitions with those willing to listen.

And that's how...

MoloMolo African Tech Stories Podcast was born!

The picture (created using AI) represents the courage an African needs to develop Tech machines, Molo Molo (step by step), and the child-like spirit we need to pursue our dreams and ambitions.

This message is universal, yet targeted at those who needed to hear it the most.

Now, circling back to the question...

Was I ready to be vulnerable about my story?

I decided to answer this question by making the first podcast about my failures.

Honestly, I was overwhelmed by the reception from friends and family!

Over the next twelve months, I had to realize that being vulnerable isn't just about sharing your thoughts with whoever wants to listen,...

You have to make your audience care!

Even more so, you must know WHO your audience is (this is still a work in progress).

This meant that the entire content creation process: audiovisual equipment, scripting, pre-production, post-production, marketing, and social media (thumbnails, titles) needed to improve with every episode.

This was the hardest part.

But man! I learned so much about what kind of person I am!

I interviewed so many great guests, spent countless hours editing, and as the message travelled far and wide, I decided that...

It was time for MORE!

More impact. More tangible results.

I felt like I didn't want to wait until I had 100,000 subscribers, to start doing the very thing I yearned to do these last few years...

To use my life experience to change people's lives.

And that's how in September 2024...

MoloMolo Tech Studios was created!

The concept of using a combination of storytelling and technical tutorials targeted at: African tech professionals and businesses quickly grew traction.

As if that wasn't enough, losing my job added extra motivation to develop a plan on how best to use my skill set to provide for my family.

And today is the first day (or the last day) of a new beginning...

If you've made it up to this point, thank you so much for following my journey of self-discovery.

Thank you to all my colleagues, friends, and family.

A special thanks to my awesome wife Lerato and my amazing son Samson.

My story is now for public consumption. It is a story that says...

Embrace change. Listen to your Inner Voice. Pursue being comfortable with uncomfortable situations.

To 2025, here we come!
